- Overview
In collaboration with Capstone Power Solutions, Engsolve delivered a robust and innovative process design for Egdon Resources to significantly reduce routine flaring at one of their UK-based onshore oil and gas sites. The project not only curtailed flared emissions but also converted waste gas into a valuable energy source—powering on-site operations and generating surplus electricity for export to the national grid. This environmentally focused project supported Egdon’s goals of improving operational sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
- Description of Services
Engsolve worked closely with Egdon Resources to design a bespoke gas conditioning and recovery system. The core objective was to intercept off- gas that would otherwise be flared and instead redirect it to Capstone microturbine generators. These generators would convert the gas into usable electricity under strict performance and safety parameters.
The Engsolve process engineering team led the system design, ensuring alignment with Egdon’s operational requirements, environmental targets, and regulatory compliance. The solution involved several key technical components:
Pressure Let-Down Stages: A multi-stage approach to gradually reduce the pressure of the gas, ensuring stability and safe delivery to the power generation equipment.
Liquid Separation: Effective removal of condensates and entrained liquids to prevent damage or inefficiency in the generators.
Gas Heating: Pre-conditioning of the gas stream to meet the optimal temperature and dew point for combustion in the microturbines.
Novel Engineering Solutions: Customised skid-based designs and modular infrastructure to fit within the existing site footprint and streamline installation.
Throughout the project, Engsolve worked in close coordination with Egdon’s site management team, Capstone Power Solutions, and other equipment vendors. This collaboration spanned all phases of the project—from initial concept and detailed design through to the HAZOP study, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Outcome
The installed system achieved a major reduction in the volume of flared gas, enhancing the site’s environmental performance and aligning with the UK’s ongoing push for lower greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector. The recovered gas now fuels Capstone microturbines that generate electrical power used both on-site and for export to the national grid, turning a waste stream into a revenue-generating asset.
This project exemplifies Engsolve’s capability to deliver practical, high-impact engineering solutions that integrate environmental responsibility with operational efficiency.
