- Overview
Engsolve representatives made up an integral part of the HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) team for a comprehensive HAZOP of a >£100million upgrade to the client’s UK based facility.
- Description of Services
The client was starting the process of upgrading their existing stabilisation facilities in the North Sea. As part of this project, The EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) contractor organised a comprehensive HAZOP and SIL (Safety Integrity Level) Study to evaluate the design from a safety point of view. Engsolve were specifically chosen as an independent process engineering representative for the duration of the work. Engsolve’s experience and expertise meant that they were perfectly placed to undertake this work and compliment the client’s team.
The client was embarking on a major project to upgrade their existing stabilisation facilities located in the North Sea. This upgrade formed a critical part of their broader operational improvement strategy and required a thorough review of all safety and design considerations. To ensure a robust and compliant design, the appointed EPC contractor initiated a comprehensive HAZOP and SIL study. These studies are essential components of any process safety management system, aimed at identifying potential risks and validating safety instrumented systems.
Recognising the need for independent and highly specialised input, the EPC contractor selected Engsolve to serve as the independent process engineering representative throughout the study. Engsolve was specifically chosen due to its proven track record, extensive technical expertise, and deep understanding of complex process systems in the oil and gas sector. Our involvement was not only to contribute to the technical evaluation but also to complement and strengthen the client’s internal engineering capabilities.
The HAZOP and SIL study spanned several weeks and required rigorous attention to detail, proactive engagement, and expert facilitation. Engsolve played a pivotal role throughout this phase of the project, providing continuous engineering support and consultancy services. Our representative worked closely with the client, offering critical technical advice, guiding discussions, and ensuring that safety and operability concerns were systematically addressed.
In addition to supporting the client’s team, Engsolve’s representative served as a vital interface with the wider project stakeholders, including design engineers, safety specialists, and equipment vendors from around the globe. By maintaining effective communication and coordination across diverse teams and time zones, Engsolve ensured that technical decisions were well-informed and aligned with industry best practices.
Outcome
Ultimately, Engsolve’s involvement was instrumental in helping the project progress smoothly through the safety review phase, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent stages of design, procurement, and construction.
