Safety Engineering Pharmaceutical Nitrogen
- Overview
A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer engaged Engsolve during the development of a new degassing system for one of its key production lines. The system was designed to prepare process fluids for ampule filling and involved the controlled release of nitrogen—a process requiring careful safety validation due to potential asphyxiation risks.
- Description of Services
Engsolve was commissioned to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment focused on the release of nitrogen and its potential impact on workplace safety. The client needed assurance that the system met stringent internal safety standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
What We Delivered
Following an on-site assessment to gather layout information and operational data, Engsolve conducted detailed modelling of multiple nitrogen release scenarios. These scenarios were based on potential leak points within the system’s configuration.
Our engineering team:
Performed nitrogen dispersion calculations
Assessed the asphyxiation risks for each scenario
Identified zones of potential hazard across the facility
Quantified risk levels and proposed mitigation strategies
Where necessary, we recommended design modifications and controls to ensure risk levels remained As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). This included the specification of appropriate pipework and fittings in line with industry standards.
Results
Engsolve’s detailed analysis enabled the client to move forward with the installation of their degassing system with full confidence in its safety performance. The findings not only ensured regulatory compliance but also reinforced the company’s commitment to protecting personnel and maintaining operational integrity
