- Overview
TrimTabs is at the forefront of advancing Carbon Nanotube (CNT) technology. Engsolve partnered with TrimTabs to engineer, fabricate, and install their initial production system, enabling the commercialisation of their patented CNT manufacturing process. This collaboration was critical in transitioning TrimTabs’ innovative technology from concept to a functional, scalable production platform.
- Description of Services
Collaborative Engineering and Design
To meet the ambitious project timeline, Engsolve worked closely with the TrimTabs team to fully understand the proprietary process and convert their conceptual design into a Minimum Viable Production (MVP) system.
Key deliverables included:
Developing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Heat and Mass Balances (HMBs) using UniSim, informed by TrimTabs’ reaction data for kiln operations
Producing multiple HMB scenarios to evaluate various production conditions
Designing detailed Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), followed by rigorous risk and safety reviews to ensure robust control and safety system integration
Equipment Procurement and Fabrication
Engsolve sourced all critical equipment, including the kiln, reaction vessels, quench systems, piping, valves, instrumentation, and structural components. We managed and coordinated multiple contractor teams to fabricate and install the process within our facility.
Installation and Commissioning
Our team oversaw the mechanical and electrical installations, including control panel setup, electrical testing, and initial system verification. Engsolve led the initial commissioning phase, validating control and safety system performance, as well as the operational integrity of all instrumentation.
TrimTabs then took over commissioning with process fluids, supported by Engsolve to ensure smooth transition and system optimisation.
Results and Impact
The successful delivery and commissioning of this production system marks a significant milestone for TrimTabs, advancing their technology closer to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 9. This achievement strengthens their position in the CNT market and supports continued innovation and scale-up at our Bridgend facility.
